Abstract
It is important to recognise the problems, challenges and opportunities that face European democracy, because it can provide the context in which Europe is seeking to make democratic institutions work.
The present research paper is intended as a contribution to reflection in the context of the Conference on the Future of Europe, considering the analysis of internal risks, threats and opportunities that can positively or negatively influence the future of the European Union.

Elena Roman, is a PhD candidate at the University of Bucharest. Her research themes include democracy, digital transformation, circular economy, and youth policies.
