Abstract
Renewable energy cooperatives can serve as useful instruments for creating tranformational change in Europe, as they can help reach the EU decarbonisation targets while promoting democratic values, providing prosperity and increasing local activism. The purpose of this research paper is to understand both the potential and the barriers to the development of renewable energy cooperatives in Europe.
