IED General Assembly in The Hague

On 14 June 2025, the Institute of European Democrats (IED) held its 28th General Assembly at the historic Pulchri Studio in The Hague—symbolically rich as a city of peace, justice, and democracy in this troubled times in the world where populations are victims of the unconsidered actions of leaders.
The following points were at the core of IED’s meeting:
Welcoming New Members
The IED proudly welcomed Italia Viva (Italy) and Bildungswerk für Liberal-Wertkonservative Demokratie e.V. (Germany) as full members, further strengthening its centrist and democratic voice across Europe.
Tribute to Andrzej Potocki
A heartfelt moment was shared as members honoured the late Andrzej Potocki, a dedicated European and Polish patriot, with a minute of silence and words of remembrance.
Strategic Governance
Mr. Francesco Rutelli was unanimously appointed Honorary President on his 71st birthday, receiving a standing ovation for his leadership and service. Through his presidency, and as one of the founders of EDP and IED, he added vision and value to the institute, and we are honored to be able to continue working along him in the future.
Alexandra Leuliette was appointed as the leader of the Strategy on the Scientific Committee to reinforce the IED’s policy and research impact.
Approve of Financial Statements 2024 and Annual Fees 2025
The General Assembly approved the 2024 Financial Statements and endorsed a call for increased member contributions for 2025, reinforcing the Institute’s resilience and shared financial responsibility.
Planning of Activities for the 2nd Semester 2025
Members confirmed a roadmap for activities focused on events, expert input, and the formation of the Scientific Committee, laying strong groundwork for the upcoming General Assembly in September and the following events, such as a Conference in Albania.
The next General Assembly is planned for 6–7 September 2025. Together, we continue building a stronger, united, and democratic Europe!
