Meeting of the IED Scientific Committee

On September 18, the Institute of European Democrats held in Brussels a meeting of its Scientific Committee. The members of the Scientific Commitee convened to plan and further develop the activities programme for 2008-2009. Other important issues were discussed during the meeting.
The Institute of European Democrats will focus in the next months particularly on different aspects concerning the role of the European Union as a global player and its capability to cooperate with other main political actors in reforming the international order.
Consequently, most part of the next activities will deepen issues as:

- new perspectives for the transatlantic link after the U.S. presidential elections;
- the future of the relations between the European Union and other strategic areas in the world as the Mediterranean region, Africa and Asia;
- deepening and widening of the EU policies and the future of the Lisbon Treaty;
- the role of the EU in fighting against climate change and global warming;
- a more effective energy policy for Europe and the future of the natural resources.

IED will be active in organising events and producing reasearch on these and other topics and will work in a close partnership with leading European and International Think Tanks.
