The authors of the papers are members of the research team of La Trobe University for the Politics and International Relations Program on Democratisation and Nationalism in Central and Eastern Europe supported by the Institute of European Democrats (IED) of Brussels. The project aimed to explore different notions of European identity and belonging. The papers discusses the ways in which Polish and Slovaks MEPs, reaffirm their own national identity while simultaneously promoting the need for European identity to be constructed in relation to Poland, Slovakia and other countries of Central and Eastern Europe.
